Meta, the company previously known as Facebook, has introduced a subscription service for virtual reality (VR) called Meta Quest+.
The service, priced at $7.99 per month or $59.99 annually, offers paying users access to two new games each month and is compatible with Meta’s Quest 2, Quest Pro, and upcoming Quest 3 headsets.
The move comes as Meta aims to make its VR business profitable after its VR unit reported a $4 billion loss in the first three months of the year.
Meta faces competition in the VR space from tech giant Apple, which recently unveiled its highly anticipated mixed-reality headset priced at $3,499, significantly higher than Meta’s VR headsets priced between $299.99 and $999.99.
Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has been vocal about his vision to build a “metaverse,” an online world where people can work, play games, and communicate in a virtual environment using VR technology.
